Dive-site story
Tauchsee Hunsfels is a flooded former limestone quarry situated near Stromberg in the Hunsrück region. Divers enter from engineered shore platforms into clear, deep water flanked by towering sheer rock walls that plunge steeply into the depths. Submerged mining remnants, underwater training platforms, and sunken attractions dot the tiered ledges. Because of the rapid drop-offs and cold conditions below the thermoclines, the site serves as a prominent European destination for technical diving and deep trimix practice.
Sheer limestone quarry walls dropping dramatically into deep water
Excellent visibility compared to most inland European quarries
Resident sturgeon often encountered cruising along the shallower training platforms
Dedicated infrastructure for technical and decompression diving
