Dive-site story
Rising from the open Mediterranean off Cabo de Palos, this submerged pinnacle sits inside the Islas Hormigas Marine Reserve. Because the rock crests just beneath the surface, it historically posed a major hazard to maritime navigation, claiming notable steamships including the SS Sirio and the Nord America. Today, the seamount features steep walls dropping onto deeper sandy plains scattered with historical wreckage, while pelagic predators and resident grouper patrol the open water around the stone.
Historic shipwreck debris including remnants of the ocean liner SS Sirio scattered along the base
Massive dusky groupers resting along rocky ledges and crevices
Spiraling schools of European barracuda and hunting amberjacks in the blue water
