Dive-site story
Located directly below the historic Miramare Castle in the Gulf of Trieste, this reserve is Italy's oldest marine protected area. The underwater terrain transitions from rocky promontories and scattered boulders along the shoreline down into soft sediment and sandy mud flats. Because fishing and unauthorized boating have been prohibited for decades, resident coastal fish show exceptionally little fear of divers, offering close encounters with species that are typically skittish in the northern Adriatic.
