Dive-site story
Located within the protected biological zone off the coast of Chioggia, this biogenic carbonate reef formation rises from the muddy seabed of the northern Adriatic. The rocky structure features fissured blocks, overhangs, and crevices formed by encrusting red algae, bryozoans, and serpulid polychaetes. Because the surrounding seafloor is predominantly fine sediment, the hard substrate acts as a vital oasis for sessile invertebrates and shelter-seeking marine organisms.
Substantial biogenic reef outcrop surrounded by silty seabed
Dense colonization of encrusting sponges, ascidians, and colonial organisms
Frequent encounters with large European lobsters and conger eels hidden in rocky crevices
