Dive-site story
MUSA (Museo Subacuático de Arte) is an extensive underwater museum situated between Cancún and Isla Mujeres. Conceived to divert visitor pressure away from stressed natural reefs, the installation features hundreds of life-sized figurative sculptures cast from specialized pH-neutral marine concrete. Over time, hard and soft corals, sponges, and algae have encrusted the statues, transforming the static artwork into an evolving artificial reef system across a shallow, white-sand flat.
Extensive underwater sculpture galleries created by Jason deCaires Taylor and local artists
Noticeable coral colonization covering figurative cement installations
Sheltered, sunlit diving conditions with exceptional ambient light for photography
Frequent encounters with southern stingrays feeding along the sand channels
