Dive-site story
Situated at the easternmost edge of the Oosterschelde along the Oesterdam, Bergse Diepsluis is among the most popular and accessible shore dives in the Netherlands. Because it sits at the head of the basin, the location experiences virtually no tidal currents, making it an exception in Zeeland where slack water windows typically dictate dive schedules. Purpose-built willow frames installed on the sandy and silty seabed attract large numbers of cuttlefish and squid each spring to mate and attach their eggs.
Submerged willow sepia cages designed as artificial breeding sites
Spring mating aggregations of common cuttlefish
Convenient shore access with dedicated dive stairs crossing the dike
Current-free marine diving suitable for relaxed macro exploration
