Dive-site story
Outside Crystal Cove sits along the sun-drenched Kohala Coast of the Big Island, where ancient basalt lava flows extend out beneath the surface to form stepped ridges and gentle sand channels. Finger coral and lobe coral colonies encrust the volcanic shelves, creating refuge for endemic Hawaiian reef fish and resting sea turtles. Diving takes place predominantly by boat, giving access to the cleaner outer drop where clarity regularly exceeds the nearshore bays.
Volcanic basalt ledges and spur-and-groove reef architecture extending into open water
Resting green sea turtles found tucked under overhangs and cleaning stations
Expansive fields of finger coral populated by schooling reef species
