Dive-site story
Set along the volcanic base of Puʻu Ōlaʻi in South Maui, this site features fingers of ancient basaltic lava that extend into a sandy seafloor. The rugged underwater landscape creates overhangs, ledges, and small cavernous pockets where resting marine life shelters from ocean swells. Water clarity tends to be reliable early in the morning before coastal trade winds generate surface chop.
Submerged lava ridges and undercut basalt ledges providing sheltered daytime resting spots
Frequent encounters with Hawaiian green sea turtles feeding on algae or resting on coral heads
Volcanic swim-throughs and pockets sheltering nocturnal invertebrates and moray eels
