Dive-site story
Located off the southern coast of Lanai near Manele Bay, Sergeant Major is characterized by shallow volcanic ridges, spur-and-groove reef fingers, and pockets of clean white sand. The topography features small lava tubes and undercut ledges that provide shelter for nocturnal species during daylight hours. Dense aggregations of mamo (Hawaiian sergeant damselfish) hover in the water column above hard coral heads.
