Dive-site story
Sunk intentionally as an artificial reef off Islamorada in the Florida Keys, the Eagle is a Dutch freighter resting on its starboard side across an open sand plain. Hurricane Georges split the massive steel hull into two distinct sections, creating dramatic twisted metal canyons that divers can explore. Because of open-ocean exposure and depth, the wreck attracts pelagic visitors along with dense schools of resident reef predators patrolling the cargo holds and superstructure.
Extensive fracture zone splitting the freighter into separated bow and stern sections
Schools of predatory fish hovering around the intact stern wheelhouse and mast
Regular encounters with massive goliath groupers holding territory inside the hull
