Dive-site story
Vanishing Rock earned its name because the pinnacle's tip only breaks the surface when a passing wave trough lowers the water level, disappearing completely under the next crest. Located in an exposed patch of open water between the outer cays, the submerged formation features sheer rocky ledges, deep crevices, and coral-encrusted overhangs. Divers circle the main pinnacle while watching the blue for pelagic visitors and checking the undercut boulders for resting bottom-dwellers.
Pinnacle structure rising from a sandy floor near the surface
Nurse sharks and moray eels sheltering inside deep undercut ledges
Schools of horse-eye jacks circling in open water around the rock apex
Encrusting sponges and gorgonians coating current-swept rock faces

Seasonality
Spring and early summer generally bring calmer seas and reduced wind chop, making boat mooring and ascents easier.
