Dive-site story
Carved by an ancient river system on the north coast of St. Croix, the western flank of Salt River Canyon forms an imposing vertical drop. Divers follow a coral-strewn shelf that suddenly fractures into a sheer wall dropping straight into deep blue water. Vibrant tube sponges, wire corals, and bushy black coral colonies cover the precipice, while pelagic predators frequently pass by just off the reef edge.
