Dive-site story
Located along the outer edge of Milln Reef off the coast of Cairns, The Whale takes its name from a massive solitary coral bommie rising from a pale sand floor. Channels of coral rubble weave around the main structure, giving way to smaller satellite heads and shallow coral gardens near the surface. Divers drift along the base inspecting deep undercuts for resting whitetip reef sharks before ascending along the bommie walls, where encrusting sponges and plate corals provide shelter for macro life.
