Dive sites in Brunei Darussalam

The American Wreck is the historic remains of the USS Salute, an Admirable-class minesweeper that struck a naval mine during pre-invasion operations in Brunei Bay in 1945. The ship broke in half and now rests upright on a sandy sea floor, encrusted in heavy coral growth and wire corals. Penetration requires technical training due to silt buildup and jagged metal, but the exterior structure provides exceptional wreck exploration with active marine communities.

Originally the Dutch passenger-cargo steamer SS De Klerk, the vessel was captured by Japanese forces during World War II before sinking from an Australian mine. The wreck sits upright on a silty seabed offshore from Bandar Seri Begawan. Black coral whips and seafans blanket the superstructure, forming an artificial reef where open decks and swim-throughs shelter schooling fish.

Sunk after catching fire in the early nineteen-eighties, the Mabini Padre trawler now rests on its port side offshore in Brunei waters. Its distance from coastal river runoffs frequently yields cleaner, bluer conditions than inshore sites, which inspired its popular name. Soft corals, gorgonian sea fans, and dense schools of pelagic fish envelop the massive steel hull, creating a rich artificial reef system.

Created from decommissioned oil platform jackets scuttled offshore, Oil Rig Reef serves as an artificial reef system in Brunei waters. The open lattice of steel crossbeams provides extensive attachment points for colorful soft corals, gorgonians, and branching hydroids. Pelagic predators gather in the surrounding blue water while macro life and crustaceans hide along the encrusted steel structure.

Sunk off the coast of Brunei, the Petani Mistral is an offshore tug and supply vessel that rests upright on a sandy seabed. Soft corals and encrusting sponges heavily coat the wheelhouse and deck fixtures. Divers navigate around the deck gear, open holds, and mast structures while schooling pelagics patrol the open water above the wreck.
