Dive-site story
Car Pile is an artificial reef created in the 1960s when dozens of classic cars, trucks, and metal chassis were dumped down the sloping reef off Pierbaai. Over the decades, sponges, hard corals, and gorgonians have transformed the rusting vintage chassis into intricate habitats. Divers typically enter from the beach and navigate past the upper coral terrace before dropping down the slope where the scattered vehicles sit stacked upon one another.
