Dive-site story
Extending from the southernmost tip of El Hierro into the Mar de las Calmas Marine Reserve, Punta Restinga is a dramatic underwater volcanic ridge flanked by deep drop-offs. The lava tongue forms basalt shelves, steep steps, and swim-through channels exposed to Atlantic currents. Because the point divides opposing water flows, pelagic predators frequently patrol the reef edge while groupers and morays shelter in the basalt cracks.
