Dive-site story
Stretching out into the English Channel from the mouth of the River Ouse, the breakwater structure at Newhaven offers a classic Sussex shore dive. Divers follow the protective wall and scattered concrete blocks, which create an artificial reef environment against a seabed of mixed shingle and sand. The site is highly tide-dependent, with slack water around high tide providing the clearest conditions and easiest entry points.
Extensive concrete and stone breakwater structures acting as artificial habitat
Macro hunting among boulder crevices for crustaceans and nudibranchs
Schools of juvenile fish aggregating around the shelter of the sea wall
