Dive-site story
Resting on the floor of Apra Harbor, the SMS Cormoran is an auxiliary cruiser scuttled by its German crew in April 1917 to avoid capture by American forces upon the United States entry into World War I. The vessel lies on its starboard side right beside the Tokai Maru, an armed Japanese freighter sunk during World War II. Divers can touch both historic wrecks simultaneously along their point of contact. While the hull has deteriorated over decades of immersion, major structures including the engine room skylights, deck hardware, and interior compartments remain accessible for trained divers navigating the harbor waters.
