The Baron Gautsch is an iconic Austro-Hungarian passenger steamship that struck a mine and sank in August 1914. Resting upright on an open seabed off the coast of Rovinj, the wreck retains its imposing profile, complete with multi-level passenger decks, structural stairways, and upper deck apertures that offer glimpses into the interior compartments. Schools of fish consistently swirl around the masts and upper superstructure, while invertebrates encrust the steel hull.
