Dive-site story
Resting upright on a sloping seabed off Wai Island, this World War II Republic P-47D Thunderbolt fighter plane remains remarkably intact. Soft corals encrust the wings and fuselage, while small schooling fish shelter inside the cockpit and engine cowl. Because of the bottom profile and open sandy terrain, divers typically combine exploring the aircraft with a drift along the adjacent coral reef.
