Dive-site story
Situated along the dramatic volcanic cliffs of the Timpa nature reserve near Acireale, Canalone takes its name from a pronounced basalt gorge carved by ancient lava flows. Divers follow the canyon as it steps downward across dark rock shelves, opening into boulder fields and overhangs encrusted with sponges, bryozoans, and yellow cluster anemones.
Striking volcanic canyon topography sculpted from Etna lava flows
Deep fissures concealing large morays and Mediterranean slipper lobsters
Good light penetration filtering into the upper sections of the rocky gully
