Dive-site story
Il Cratere lies off the northwestern Sicilian coast near Trapani. The site takes its name from a distinct circular rock formation that drops down to create a natural amphitheater on the seabed. Rocky crevices run through the rim of the formation, providing sheltered habitat for Mediterranean fauna alongside patches of Posidonia oceanica meadows.
Sunken crater-like volcanic or karstic circular rock amphitheater
Sheltered crevices housing morays, octopus, and crustacean colonies
Schools of damselfish and sea bream patrolling above the perimeter rim
