Dive-site story
Positioned just outside the bay of Marina di Campo off Elba Island, La Triglia is an isolated rocky outcrop rising from a sandy seabed. Divers navigate around the submerged base of the rock where fissures and overhangs shelter typical Mediterranean fauna. A notable cultural feature on the shoal is a submerged statue of the Madonna, which rests on a rock shelf and serves as a classic orientation landmark during circumnavigations of the reef.
Submerged statue of the Madonna fixed directly onto the rocky shelf
Dense clusters of Mediterranean damselfish hovering above the shallower ridges
Rocky crevices harboring hidden moray eels, octopus, and resting scorpionfish
Posidonia oceanica meadows skirting the outer sandy perimeter
