Dive-site story
Located along the rugged western tip of the Portofino Promontory within the marine protected area, this dive follows a dramatic rocky spur as it drops toward deep sand. Huge conglomerate boulders create shelter for large predators, while the shaded vertical walls support dense encrusting life. Because Punta Chiappa marks a distinct geographic boundary between the Gulf of Genoa and the open Ligurian Sea, currents can sweep around the point and concentrate pelagic fish.
Steep rocky walls adorned with yellow cluster anemones and red gorgonians
Frequent encounters with resident dusky groupers patrolling the boulder slopes
Schools of dentex hunting baitfish in the blue off the point
