Dive-site story
Formed in limestone cliff rock on Gozo's western coast at Dwejra, the Blue Hole opens as a sheltered inland pool carved out by centuries of wave action. Divers descend through the vertical shaft before passing underneath a wide natural stone arch that opens into the open sea. Once outside, the route branches toward the towering submerged boulders of the former Azure Window, the Coral Gardens plateau, or a vertical fissure known as the Chimney.
Natural limestone archway linking the inland pool directly to the open sea
Deep swim-through crack known as the Chimney leading back toward the main pool
Massive underwater rock slabs and boulders scattered across the seabed from the collapsed Azure Window
Sheltered shallow ledge of Coral Gardens hosting soft invertebrates and benthic fish
