Dive-site story
Sunk inside the lagoon of Addu Atoll in 1946 after surviving two separate torpedo attacks during World War II, the British Loyalty is one of the most prominent historic shipwrecks in the Maldives. The 140-meter-long oil tanker rests on its port side on a sandy seabed. Over decades of submersion, dense fields of hard and soft corals have encrusted the hull, while massive engine components, the deck propeller, and open cargo holds provide extensive structure to explore.
Well-preserved exterior features including the ship propeller encrusted with marine growth
Large torpedo blast hole allowing natural light to illuminate the cargo compartments
Schooling marine life aggregating around the upright starboard hull and superstructure
