Dive-site story
The C-53 Felipe Xicoténcatl is a retired Mexican Navy gunboat and former US Navy minesweeper intentionally scuttled off the coast of Cozumel to create an artificial reef. Sitting upright on a flat sand bottom, the wreck has been extensively prepared for divers with large access holes cut into the hull, allowing straightforward swim-throughs across the engine room, bridge, and crew quarters. Marine growth encrusts the railings and superstructure, while the surrounding open sand plain frequently attracts pelagic visitors passing in the current.
