Dive-site story
A Chinese cargo vessel seized in 1995, the Fang Ming was intentionally sunk near Isla Ballena off La Paz in November 1999 to create the first artificial reef in Latin America. The steel hull sits upright on a flat sandy bottom with open cargo holds and cutaway passageways that permit safe swim-throughs for divers trained in wreck exploration.
