Dive-site story
Located between Isla Mujeres and Cancún, this monumental artificial reef features hundreds of life-sized sculptures designed by artist Jason deCaires Taylor and other sculptors. Placed directly on the flat sandy seabed, the statues were crafted from pH-neutral marine concrete specifically to encourage coral colonization and divert diver traffic away from fragile natural reefs nearby. Over time, algae, hard corals, and tube sponges have transformed the installations into dynamic habitats where shoaling reef fish congregate in high numbers.
