Dive-site story
Rising from a deep seabed off Sabah, Sipadan is an oceanic island formed over thousands of years by living corals growing atop an extinct volcanic cone. The topography is dominated by near-vertical limestone walls and plunge-offs that drop into the abyss, creating strong upwellings that fuel high pelagic biodiversity. Divers drift along coral-encrusted drop-offs accompanied by resident populations of sea turtles, swirling tornado schools of barracuda, and cruising reef sharks.
Massive vortex formations of chevron barracuda and schooling jacks
Remarkably dense populations of green and hawksbill turtles resting on wall ledges
Dramatic vertical wall topography covered in gorgonian fans and soft corals
Regular morning patrols of large bumphead parrotfish cruising the reef crest
