Dive-site story
Located at the eastern end of the Oosterschelde against the Oesterdam, Bergse Diepsluis is celebrated among Northern European divers for its seasonal cuttlefish aggregation. Submerged willow branches and artificial metal frames provide spawning structures just offshore from the dike stairs. Because the site sits at the terminus of the inlet, it experiences significantly gentler tidal currents than most other Zeeland dive locations.
Spring mating ritual and egg-laying displays of common cuttlefish
Artificial spawning structures and reed bundles colonized by marine life
Occasional sightings of long-snouted seahorses clinging to hydroids and algae
Easy shore entry via dedicated steps over the dike
