Mainit, which translates to 'hot' in the local dialect, gets its name from geothermal hot springs seeping directly through the dark volcanic seabed. Divers feel distinct thermal thermoclines where warm, sulfur-tinged water bubbles up from the sand. The bottom slopes downward into patches of vibrant yellow soft coral colonies, barrel sponges, and rocky outcrops that host curious macro critters.
