Dive-site story
Resting upright on an open sand floor off the coast of Sesimbra, Batelão is an old cargo barge that has become an artificial reef within the Professor Luiz Saldanha Marine Park. The hull structure remains largely intact, offering shelter to benthic fauna and schools of fish in an otherwise flat seabed environment. Because of the deeper profile and exposure to Atlantic tides, this wreck is reserved for divers with suitable deep training.
Intact metal hull and open hold structures hosting dense invertebrate growth
Large resident conger eels occupying sheltered nooks beneath the steel plates
Schools of pouting and anthias hovering directly above the wreck profile
