Dive-site story
Sunk during the winter while locked in pack ice following a shipboard fire, the Dutch fluyt Anna Maria rests upright on the seabed in the Dalarö maritime heritage area. Because the brackish, oxygen-poor waters of the Baltic Sea lack wood-boring shipworms, her timber hull, deck beams, and transom remain remarkably intact after centuries submerged. Diving the site provides an atmospheric look at seventeenth-century merchant ship construction, with visible deck frames, cargo holds, and structural knees.
