El Salvador
Lake Ilopango fills a massive volcanic caldera just east of San Salvador. Diving here offers an unusual freshwater volcanic environment characterized by submerged cliffs, steep drop-offs into deep abyss, and active geothermal vents where hot mineral water bubbles straight out of the lakebed. Volcanic ash, submerged rock pinnacles, and several deliberately sunken sculptures create distinct navigational landmarks along the perimeter.

Located within the volcanic crater lake of Lake Coatepeque, this site features a surreal graveyard of preserved tree trunks and branches standing upright along the lake bed. Because the lake sits at an elevated altitude, dives here require altitude decompression planning. Divers descend through clear upper layers into an eerie landscape of petrified timber and volcanic rock slopes.
