Dive-site story
Chicken Reef is one of Green Island's celebrated offshore pinnacles, sitting off the southwestern coast. The massive underwater seamount rises steeply from a sandy bottom, terminating in an irregular crest shaped like a rooster head. Strong Kuroshio current eddies flush the pinnacle with clear oceanic water, nourishing expansive sea fans and attracting schools of pelagic fish alongside resident macro critters.
Dramatic pinnacle topography rising steeply from the seafloor
Large gorgonian sea fans harboring Bargibant's pygmy seahorses
Dense aggregations of pelagic species schooling around the current-swept crest
