Dive-site story
Situated along the outer perimeter of Mnemba Atoll off Zanzibar's northeastern coast, Aquarium features a gently sloping hard and soft coral reef that flattens into an expansive sandy plateau. Divers drift past massive coral bommies surrounded by schools of reef fish, while the surrounding sandy stretches host garden eels and rays. Because conditions are typically calm, the site allows unhurried observation of macro critters tucked into coral crevices as well as open-water pelagics patrolling the outer reef edge.
Plentiful green turtles feeding on the reef slopes and resting near coral heads
Expansive fields of garden eels populating the deeper sandy patches
Dense aggregations of schooling yellow snappers, surgeonfish, and batfish hovering above the reef structure
Frequent sightings of moray eels, scorpionfish, and nudibranchs nestled among hard corals
