Dive-site story
Located offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, Stetson Bank forms the northernmost component of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. Unlike the coral reef caps at East and West Flower Garden Banks, this uplifted salt dome exposes claystone and siltstone ridges blanketed by sponges, hydroids, and fire coral. Pelagic species patrol the pinnacles as currents sweep across the shelf.
Claystone and siltstone spire formations unique to the region
Schooling scalloped hammerheads and pelagic rays
Bedrock ridges covered in barrel sponges and encrusting fire coral
