Dive-site story
Developed by the Sri Lanka Navy off Sandy Bay in Trincomalee, this artificial reef project serves both as an underwater gallery and a marine habitat sanctuary. The seafloor features an array of submerged statues, decommissioned naval structures, concrete artwork, and small vessel remnants designed to encourage coral colonization. Divers navigate through sculpted exhibits resting on a predominantly sandy seabed, observing how fast marine flora and fauna have taken hold of the hard substrates.
Submerged naval artifacts and concrete statues creating an artificial reef complex
Opportunity to see young hard and soft corals encrusting man-made exhibits
Schools of juvenile reef fish aggregating around sculpted structures
