Dive sites in Sri Lanka

Located off Sri Lanka's southernmost cape near the historic lighthouse, Dondra Point features submerged granite boulders, rocky ledges, and hard coral formations facing the open Indian Ocean. Currents sweep across the point, attracting roving pelagics while resident morays and reef fish shelter within the rocky crevices.

Situated off the coast of Mirissa, this rocky outcrop features large granite boulders, fissures, and overhangs resting on a sandy seabed. As the name suggests, the site hosts an impressive concentration of moray eels sheltering inside crevices and rock hollows. Ocean swells can sweep through the shallower sections, but the labyrinthine rock formations provide ample shelter for reef critters and wandering pelagics.

Situated along the southern coast of Matara, Polhena Reef features a protected inshore lagoon that slopes gently out to an offshore barrier. Divers navigate scattered coral bommies, sandy gullies, and rocky outcrops that host resident green sea turtles grazing on algae beds. The sheltered inner reef transitions into a livelier outer slope where schools of reef fish take shelter from coastal currents.
