Dive-site story
The SS Rangoon is a historic nineteenth-century steamship that sank upright just outside Galle Harbour. Built in Newcastle in the eighteen-sixties, this British vessel remains largely intact on the seabed, showcasing an ornate bow and classic iron hull construction. Because of its depth and exposed offshore position, the wreck attracts schooling pelagics and an extensive coating of marine growth across its machinery and decks.
Well-preserved iron hull resting upright with intact structural features
Historical steam-era machinery and framing draped in soft corals
Schools of pelagic fish patrolling the upper superstructure
